Driver crashes into FF store,
gets charged with OUI
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Two women were sent to the hospital Saturday afternoon after a driver who may have been impaired crashed into Nan’s Thrift Store, according to police.
Emergency responders arrived at 110 Presque Isle St. around 4:45 p.m. to find that Elizabeth Paradis, 34, had crashed her 2006 Dodge Stratus into Nan’s Thrift Store while pulling into the parking lot.
Claudette Edgecomb, 57, was sitting at a table near the wall that was struck by the vehicle and was thrown across the room by the impact, Fort Fairfield Police Chief Shawn Newell said.
Edgecomb was able to walk out of the building, but collapsed in the parking lot, Newell said. Paradis and Edgecomb were taken to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle for treatment.
Paradis was treated and released with minor facial injuries before being arrested for operating under the influence and aggravated driving to endanger, Newell said. Results of a blood test are pending, he said.
Edgecomb, a resident of Fort Fairfield, was being treated for possible internal injuries, but her condition as of Monday afternoon was unavailable, Newell said.
The store’s internal and external wall’s took “moderate damage,” Newell said. The car suffered “heavy front-end damage” and was towed away.
Paradis’ bail was set at $1,000 cash or $4,000 surety, and she remains in custody at the Aroostook County Jail, Newell said.
Members of the Fort Fairfield Police, Fort Fairfield Fire Department and Crown Ambulance responded to the crash.
