Scouts end year with ceremony
MAPLETON NEWS
Mapleton Girl Scout Troops 187 and 1133, along with family and friends gathered at the Mapleton United Methodist Church on June 17 for an end-of-the-year ceremony. Troop 187 started in January of this year, so this was their first formal ceremony.
Troop 1133 Cadette Bethany Baker welcomed everyone and introduced fellow Cadette Katelyn Amero, who introduced all Scouts present. The audience joined the girls in the flag salute, then the girls recited the Girl Scout Promise and participated in a candle ceremony as they recited the Girl Scout Law. The Scouts sang “Make New Friends,” followed by PowerPoint photo presentations showing activities both troops took part in during their year together.
Troop 187 co-leaders Amanda Robinson, Lisa Dean and Marcia Cogswell presented their Daisies and Brownies with certificates of completion for their first year, along with other awards earned since March. Troop 1133 co-leaders Jennifer Buzza, Nancy Winslow and Laurie Amero presented their Cadettes with badges, patches and pins earned since November.
Several girls were recognized during the ceremony as they prepared to bridge to the next level of Girl Scouting. Brownies Olivia Locke and Neve Guerrette presented a “Bake a Batch of Brownies” skit as they “baked” a new batch of Brownie Girl Scouts, each exiting from an “oven.” Daisy Scouts bridging to Brownies were Olive Gregg, Myah Hayes, Kobee Jordan and Shelby Robinson.
Following the skit, each received a new Brownie sash and walked across the ceremonial bridge, where they were welcomed by their leaders with the Girl Scout handshake.
Five Brownies bridged to Juniors in similar fashion. Each of the girls received a new Junior sash, crossed the bridge and shook hands with their leaders. Bridging to Juniors were Bobbi Guerrette, Neve Guerrette, Olivia Locke, JoLea Robinson and Rylan Sturtevant.
Troop 1133 co-leader Laurie Amero and daughter Katelyn took part in a bridging ceremony where Katelyn bridged to Seniors. Following a reading, Katelyn crossed the bridge to accept her bridging certificate from her mother.
The ceremony concluded with the girls singing the Girl Scout version of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” and a sillier song with hand motions, titled “Baby Shark.” Families stayed after the ceremony and enjoyed brownie ice cream sundaes.
Troop 187 members are Madison Brazier, Hattie Cogswell, Lily Dean, Maude Drew, Olive Gregg, Bobbi Guerrette, Neve Guerrette, Myah Hayes, Hailey Himes, Kobee Jordan, Olivia Locke, Mikayla Michaud, JoLea Robinson, Shelby Robinson, Rylan Sturtevant and Mylee Waugh.
Troop 1133 members are Katelyn Amero, Bethany Baker, Maddie Buzza, Alexis Getchell and Amanda Winslow.
