CARIBOU, Maine — Two walking bog tours and a camp about bugs are among the Nylander Museum’s summer offerings.
Richard Clark will facilitate two walking tours of the Woodland Bog Preserve, located at the intersection of Rte. 228 and the Aroostook Valley Railroad/trail bed, spotlighting “Orchids of Aroostook County” on the next two Saturdays, June 23 and June 30, beginning at 9 a.m. Tours are free; Clark recommends participants wear waterproof footwear.
A mini-camp will be held for students in grades 4-8 on July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum. Following the theme “What’s Bugging You?,” students will learn about the different species of bugs, how to identify them, and how bugs benefit the environment.
That same evening beginning at 6 p.m. at the museum, Jen Lund, Maine state apiarist, will talk about the importance of bees to the ecosystem.
There will be a Nylander Family Reunion (in conjunction with Caribou Days) from August 2-5, and on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m., Kristine Bondeson, owner of Down to Earth Gardens, will present “Herbs & You” at the museum.
Those interested can explore the North Maine Woods from a museum chair on
Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m. with Al Cowperthwaite.
Tours are available during the museum’s hours, Saturday and Sunday, 1-3 p.m., or by appointment.
