LIMESTONE, Maine — A plethora of festivities are planned from June 28 to July 6 in the town of Limestone to celebrate not only Independence Day, but also the town’s 150th anniversary.
The fourth of July will be packed with events, starting with a 7-9 a.m. breakfast at Limestone United Methodist Church, followed immediately by an interfaith service at Rotary Park. A chicken barbecue will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Limestone Volunteer Fire Department on Main Street.
At 11 a.m., vendors will line Main Street and offer concessions to guests and lemonade and cookies will be offered at The Closet Frog beginning at noon. DJ Jake Ball will begin playing music at 1 p.m. and hyping up the crowd before the 2 p.m. parade, themed after the town’s 150th anniversary and slated to feature antique tractors, clowns, bands and pageant queens.
The party will move to Trafton Lake after the parade. Offerings there will include a pie-eating contest, a rib cook-off, a cheesecake cook-off, potato sack races, a dunk tank, bounce house, and a corn hole tournament starting at 4 p.m. The beer garden will be open 3-9 p.m. and Wally and the Virginians will be playing music 5-9 p.m., after which the town will cap off the event with fireworks.
On Friday, July 5, the town will close off a portion of the street near Mike’s Family Market for a street dance from 7 p.m. to midnight featuring music from Turning Point, along with food vendors and a beer garden.
Everything will be capped off with an all-alumni class reunion at Limestone Community School on Saturday.
Numerous events are slated leading up to the 4th, with special deals offered at Poitras Service and Parent’s Country Store on June 28, a rotary club golf tournament on June 29, a town-wide yard sale throughout the weekend, and special deals offered at the aforementioned stores along with Cote’s Auto Repair, Talk of the Town and Quilting around the Corner on July 1.
