Little League in action

The Mapleton Summer Recreation Program’s Little League began on July 6 at the diamond behind the Mapleton Elementary School.

Games are scheduled through Aug. 15, when the championship game will be played.

Parents, families and friends turned for the opening week of games.  Being respectful of physical distancing, cars lined up around the Little League field, with spectators also sitting behind home plate and along the sidelines.

The kids are excited to be back playing ball and having a great time with each other.  For those interested in attending the games, the Little League game schedule can be found online at the Mapleton Town Office Website.  The link is https://mapleton.me/index.php/town-services/recreation/.

Mapleton Little Leaguers were happy to be back in uniform and playing baseball.  Many spectators were glad for the season to finally begin even with the COVID-19 restrictions in place.  Spectators maintained physical distance by simply staying in their vehicles or watching from a distance.

Other recreation programs have started for children and youth ages 3 through 16.  These summer programs are:  soccer fundamentals, biking, hiking, baseball fundamentals, tennis, dance, yoga, corn hole, running and horseshoes.   The scheduled times for these programs are also available online at the link above.

Camp@Home in a Box

There are two weeks left in Baptist Park’s summer virtual programs for children and youth.

Park leaders implemented new online programs that are helping kids and parents have fun this summer with online guidance and support from Baptist Park through Camp@Home in a Box.

The remaining two weeks of camp will be for the campers ages 10-12. First is the “Outdoor Adventure” week, July 20-24, which use the camp portal to share virtually the traditionally very active week of hiking, mountain biking, outdoor cooking and maybe a night under the stars.

Finally, the last week will again involve outdoor activities with the special emphasis on creating videos, taking digital photos and the sharing of Baptist Park virtually.  Digital Arts/Theater Week for campers ages 11-14 will be held July 26-31.

There is still time to register for one or both of these last two weeks of camp.

With all of the regular summer camps in the central Aroostook area closed for the summer, Baptist Park is offering the opportunity for kids to have a fun summer with special activities related to camping.  Park leadership understands the value of making and building lifelong friendships with other campers and with camp counselors, as well as building an understanding relationship with the Lord.
