April activities at Houlton Recreation Department

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following activities in April. To register or for more information on these programs, call the Rec at 207-532-1310.

 Indoor Soccer will be offered for the following age groups; Grades 1 on Fridays, April 2, 9, and 16 from 4-4:45 p.m.; Grades 2 on Fridays, April 2,9 and 16 from 5:15-6 p.m.; Grades 3 on Saturdays, April 3, 10 and 17 from 9-9:45 a.m.; Grades 4 on Saturdays, April 3, 10 and 17.  Each group is limited to 14 youths and the cost is $30 for Houlton residents or $45 for non-Houlton residents.  Please register by March 29. Masks are required. 

Free Movie Matinee for Kids: On Wednesday, April 7, at 1 p.m., the recreation department will be offering a free move matinee to Houlton area children.  This will be held at the Houlton Temple Theater.  Youth Pre-k to Grade 6 are invited to attend, those in Grade 1 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.  The movie feature will be “The Croods~The New Age” which is rated G.  The Theater will be offering a $6 movie special of a small popcorn, small drink & movie size candy bar as well as full concessions. This event is limited to 50 individuals and registration is required. Call the rec department by April 1, 2021.  Masks are required and there will be social distance seating. 

April Vacation Break Programs – All programs are for Pre-K to Grade 6 youth, registration is required by April 13. All programs will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Rec Center and each morning is limited to 16 children.

Tuesday, April 20, will be “Arts & Crafts” for kids; Wednesday, April 21, will be “Crazy Games” and Thursday, April 22, will be “Lego Fun.” The cost is $4 per child, per morning. Masks are required at all activities.  

Red Cross Babysitters Course will be held on Saturday, April 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Houlton Rec Center. Youth between the ages of 11-15 years are invited to attend. The cost for this course is $55 and checks can be payable to Aroostook Health & Safety Plus.  This course is a great opportunity to receive the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. Students must register by April 14, and space is limited to 12.  Youth will need to bring a lunch and drink, and masks are required.  

Vacation break open gym and game room hours will be Monday, April 19 through Friday, April 23 from 1-3 p.m. Grades 2-12 are encouraged to come and use the gym and game room, youth grades 1 or younger, must be with an adult.  This is a drop in type activity, no registration is required.
