A high wind warning has been issued Monday for the Caribou and Presque Isle area for 35 to 40 mile per hour winds and gusts between 55 and 60 miles per hour.
Expected rain measurements for Aroostook County are 1.75 to 2.3 inches in the south, and an inch and half of rain for both the northeast and west.
Small creeks and streams will be running high with a flood advisory in effect until 8:45 p.m. for Amity, Haynesville, Houlton, Hodgdon, Island Falls, Sherman, and Smyrna.
The high wind warning extends to eastern Aroostook County and as far down as the Houlton area, according to Tim Duda, Meteorologist for the National Weather Service based in Caribou.
Versant Power reported around 1,600 customers without power as of 4:30 p.m. Monday. SAD 1 sent students home early at 1:20 p.m. due to power outages at Pine Street Elementary School, Presque Isle High School, Presque Isle Technical Center, and Zippel Elementary School.
The wind is predicted to die down after midnight.
