HOULTON, Maine — Aroostook County Judge of Probate James P. Dunleavy passed away on December 10, 2023. In accordance with Maine law, Gov. Janet T. Mills will appoint a qualified individual to serve out the remainder of Judge Dunleavy’s term from a list provided by the County Committee of the judge’s political party.
The Aroostook County Democratic Committee will hold a caucus to evaluate candidates on Wednesday, January 17, to be conducted via Zoom. Any interested candidate for the office of probate judge is asked to declare their interest by emailing AroostookCountyDemocrats@gmail.com with their resume and a brief statement of interest. They will be invited to join the Zoom meeting. To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must be registered to vote as a Democrat in Aroostook County and licensed to practice law in Maine.
“Judge Dunleavy was respected across the county and the state for his work as a probate judge,” said Jackie Reader, chairperson of the Aroostook County Democratic Committee. “I look forward to hearing from candidates who share his expertise and dedication so that we may make an informed recommendation to Governor Mills.”
