FORT KENT, Maine – The Fort Kent Police Department issued an alert on Friday morning requesting the public’s help in finding McClaren “Mickey” McBreairty. Later that morning, the department announced that he had been found and was safe.
The police thanked the Maine Warden Service and the public for their help in locating McBreairty.
Police said McBreairty went fishing on Thursday morning, but did not return that night. Before being found, he was last seen at the Allagash Checkpoint of the Northern Maine Woods. McBreairty was driving his silver Ford F-150.
McBreairty’s wife reported her husband missing at 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he did not return from his fishing trip, according to a press release from the Maine IF&W Communications Director Mark Latti.
Wardens searched one of his favorite fishing areas until approximately 3 a.m. Friday. They resumed their search at 6 a.m. The morning search included an Allagash Ranger and a Maine Service aircraft.
Game Warden Pilot Josh Tibbetts found McBreairty’s truck stuck on a washed out road in Allagash at about 10:15 in the morning.
“Game Warden Kayle Hamilton was able to drive to the scene where he found McBreairty in the truck, a little tired but in good spirits.’’ Latti wrote. “Game Warden Hamilton was able to get him out of the woods, and reunite him with his family.”
