Demolition Derby draws big crowd to Houlton fair

HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Agricultural Fair was filled with the sound of metal crunching and cars smashing Saturday afternoon as the always popular demolition derby highlighted the first day of fair activities. 

According to fair president Paul Cleary, several thousand people lined the hill of Community Park to watch one of the largest fields of cars in recent memory.

“It was an excellent derby,” Cleary said. “We had a total of 61 vehicles participate. It was the most we have ever had.”

Winners on the day were as follows:

Regular Compact Demo — 1. Tyler Fitzpatrick, 2. Jordan Benn, and 3. Adam Silliboy.

Compact Cars Derby — 1. Peter Schools, 2. Lenny Keyes, and 3. Kyle Wells.

Mini Van Derby — 1. Austin Woods, 2. Matt Furlow, and 3. Tanner Wilde.

Firemans Demo Derby — 1. Oakfield Fire Department, 2. Oakfield Fire Department, and 3. Linneus Fire Department.
