AUGUSTA, Maine — For just the sixth time in history, Houlton Lodge #835 is the home Lodge of the Maine Elks Association state president. Michael Hannigan was sworn in by Past State President Michael Powers on Sunday, May 5.
Along with Dr. Hannigan from Houlton Lodge #835 are Robert Cleary, who will serve as the state tiler, Michael Power, who will serve as the state chaplain and from the Old Town Lodge #1287 Jeff Bosse will serve as the sergeant at arms. Additional members of the State Officer suite include President-Elect Corey Dewitt from the Sanford Lodge #1470, First Vice President Duane “Kip” Clark from the Farmington Lodge #2430, Second Vice President Eric Hoard from the Ellsworth Lodge #2743, State Secretary Dwayne Guy from the Rockland Lodge #1008, State Treasurer Felicia Gaulin from Waterville Lodge #905 and Administrative Assistant Anthony Gause from Augusta Lodge #964.
The Maine Elks Association is an important part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the United States. This organization is dedicated to strengthening communities, supporting patriotism, and helping scholars and veterans. In Maine the major charity supported by the Elks is the Maine Children’s Cancer Program at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Last year the Maine Elks Association donated over $450,000.00 to MCCP.
In addition, scholarships from the National Organization, State Association, and local Lodges help support numerous students around the State and the country.
