Abel Beaulieu was born on Oct. 5, 1935 in the St. Francis home he grew up in. Beaulieu attended school in St. Francis and went on to graduate from Fort Kent High School. He enlisted in the Army on May 22, 1958 and trained as a mechanic.

During his two years of service in the Army, Beaulieu served in Korea and Germany. After he was honorably discharged from the Army on May 13, 1960, Beaulieu worked in Massachusetts and then returned to Aroostook County. He held several maintenance jobs in the area and worked in a waiver home in Eagle Lake taking care of its residents.

Prior to moving into Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou, Beaulieu had been living in Frenchville and was an avid fisherman. He has five children, whom he used to travel to Oregon and Georgia to visit. Beaulieu’s nieces and nephews in the area have been very supportive in taking care of him, especially now that he is at the veterans’ home.

At the home, Beaulieu enjoys exercising, listening to music, going on bus rides and playing bingo. He also likes to socialize with staff and residents. He is always the spontaneous practical joker and brings a great deal of levity to any event he attends.
