PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Police Department now has a deputy chief, following the promotion of Sgt. Laurie Kelly to the newly-created position – a post that came about at City Council’s request to create a clearer chain of command within the department.
Kelly has been a member of the force for 24 years. According to Police Chief Matt Irwin, it was her “exemplary service to the community, high regard among law enforcement officials and dedicated professionalism” that served as contributing factors in her promotion.
“Laurie, who came to the Presque Isle Police Department after serving in the United States Army, has distinguished herself as a thoughtful, professional and very well-respected member of the department. The citizens of Presque Isle are fortunate to have such a quality public servant working in this community,” said the chief.
“I look forward to working with Deputy Chief Kelly as this department moves forward,” noted Irwin.
